Kacie Carter | Honey Hi

Kacie Carter is one of the founders and owners of Honey Hi, one of LA's newest and most-talked about restaurants! We met Kacie in December at Echo Park Craft Fair, where our booths were set up across from each other. We found that she not only makes incredibly tasty, healthy food—she's also a super friendly, down-to-earth and generally an all-around awesome person! We were really excited when Honey Hi decided to carry Canyon on their shelves, because it meant we'd get to spend more time with Kacie (...while eating their delicious bowls and cookies). Food and awesomeness aside, we also relate with and admire Kacie as a fellow entrepreneur. Like her, we are in our late 20's and started our business in October. We...

Lacy Phillips | Free + Native

Lacy Phillips is the real deal. One of our favorite people and founder of Free + Native, Lacy is one of our constant go-to’s for recipes, wellness tips, and general well being. Both online and in person, Lacy’s grounded presence and perspective have the power to make you laugh at any situation you might have found grave only moments before. She is capable of being fully open and honest, without being blunt; rather, her abundant positive energy conveys the truth that she really wants what’s best for you. Needless to say, we love hanging out with Lacy. We trekked over to her and her partner Max's beautiful home in Echo Park recently for some morning coffee and catch-up. Now, anyone who follows...

As usual, we had a blast with Anais and Dax. Hope you enjoy the photos, as we have, and be on the look out for more collaborations soon! The Health Benefits of Coffee: What Science Really Shows

It's the start of a New Year, and a great time to set intentions, create resolutions, and form new habits.  It's no secret that we love our coffee. Not just us, but Americans in general—we drink about 400 million cups of it every day. An estimated 83% of American adults drink coffee, averaging about three cups a day. Why do we love coffee so much? Most people would probably answer that they use coffee to wake them up in the morning, or provide a little pick-me-up in the afternoon. Most would also agree they love the taste. For Ally and I, we love the ritual of making coffee for each other at home, and the coziness it brings. But Sanjiv Chopra,...

Ashleigh Parsons | Morning Rituals

You never know when a random encounter with a stranger is going to turn into an enduring friendship. Such was the case with Ashleigh Parsons. We met her a few years ago at Individual Medley in Atwater Village, and instantly hit it off!  Ashleigh is part of the genius behind Alma Restaurant. She helped open the restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles in 2012, running front of house while chef Ari Taymor ran the kitchen. One of the first aspects that made us admire Ashleigh (besides her contagious smile and bright energy!) was her commitment to making Alma about more than just the food and dining experience. Her ambition and success in creating Alma Community Outreach to support the community in Los Angeles was inspiring to us,...
