How to use an

AeroPress

The AeroPress is capable of making seriously good coffee, with precision, in a short amount of time.

The key takeaway is that there's no one "right" way to make an Aeropress. You can play with so many variables... your grind setting, how much coffee you put in, how much water you add, how long to bloom (or not to bloom), whether you make it "upright" or "inverted" style, how hot your water is, how long you steep, how long you plunge...

The combinations are endless.

1.Boil water and let sit for a minute (if you have a programmable electric kettle, set it to 195°F, for starters!)

2. Insert filter into "basket," screw onto bottom of the AeroPress, and wet with heated water. Plunge water out and discard.

3. Grind 1 AeroPress scoop of whole beans on a medium-fine grind setting (12 on the Baratza Encore)

4. Bloom your coffee by pouring hot water to onto ground coffee up to the "1" on the AeroPress, ensuring you get all the grounds wet

5. Wait 30 seconds, the plunge the "bloomed" coffee into your glass/cup until you hear a hissing sound

6. Now, fill up the AeroPress again to the "3" & give it a stir.

7. Plunge the coffee after about a minute (you can play with this and plunge after 30 seconds, 45 seconds, etc.)

8. Stop once you hear a hissing sound.

Enjoy your coffee!

The approach Casey uses in this video is to "bloom" the coffee, plunge the bloom, then add more water before finishing.
